To the people of Midgard, the gods are best known from myth and legend, the tales told by the Norse skalds. The exact dimensions and truths of what may or may not have been done is sometimes clouded even for the lesser Aesir and Vanir. At the very least, the greatest gods are known by reputation and tale of their deeds and treasures.

OC Note: Knowledge of the major gods is imprecise and captures the perceived reputation better than actual fact. Although actual fact usually matters less to the Aesir themselves.

Ruler of Asgard, Odin is the greatest and eldest of all the gods and by his accounting the creator of the Nine Worlds. Whilst he is the warleader of the gods he is most renowned for his great wisdom and cunning, as well as his mastery of magic of the runes.

Odin wield the spear Gungnir and rides the eight legged horse Sleipnir. He carries with him the preserved head of Mimir, a venerable counselor of the Aesir slain by the Vanir, and sometimes consults the murdered sage for advice.

He was swallowed whole by the wolf Fenrir during Ragnarok.

Queen of Asgard, Frigg rules the land of the Gods during Odin's frequent wanderings. She is gifted with powerful prophetic abilities, though she rarely shares her visions with others.

As Queen, Frigg alone has the right to sit upon the magical throne of Asgard, Hildskjalf, which allows her to view affairs in the other worlds.

At Ragnarok Frigg will died upon the throne after defending Asgard from its foes.

God of Storms and husband of Sif, Thor is renowned as the mightiest of the Aesir. A skilled warrior, Thor is known to have a short temper, and is particularly hated by the Jötnar, having killed many of their great heroes.

Thor carries the hammer Mjölnir, perhaps the greatest weapon in Asgard.

He is doomed to die by the serpent Jormungandr's venom at Ragnarok

A goddess of the earth and companionship, Sif is renowned for her beauty. She is married to Thor, and has a strong friendship with his lover, the giantess Jarnsaxa who dwells within her hall. The pair once saved her adventurous daughter Thrud after she was abducted in Jotunheim.

She possesses a dwarf-forged wig spun from gold, which Loki was forced to provide after cutting off her hair for a prank.

A goddess of justice and law, Týr lost her hand during the gods' chaining of Fenrir. She is well-respected for her sacrifice and for her strength.

She is doomed to die fighting the giantess Sinmara during Ragnarok, and the Helhound Garm will consume her.

A close friend to Queen Frigg, Eir is the finest healer in Asgard. He makes his home upon the Hill of Healing and there studies how to protect against pestilences and sickness.

The watchman of Asgard, Heimdall is noted for his vigilance and keen senses.

He carries the Gjallarhorn, which he can blow loudly enough to alert all of Asgard.

He is doomed to die in battle with Loki at Ragnarok

Kára is first amongst the valkyries and, having witnessed a thousand battles, is the most knowledgeable of all the Aesir in matters of strategy. In Odin's absence she runs the hall of Valhalla and prepares the glorious dead for their role in Ragnarok.

Kára has the gift of reincarnation, and is doomed in each life to love a mortal hero, who will die in battle. Odin has pronounced that this cycle will end at Ragnarok.

Shapeshifter, liar, trickster and murderer. In the past Loki's deceits have been occasionally helpful to the denizens of Asgard, but now Loki has been bound beneath the earth for his part in the death of the beloved god Baldur.

Loki is foretold to escape his bindings and join the gods' enemies at Ragnarok. He will be slain in his battle with the god Heimdall.

Idun is the keeper of the apples of immortality, that grant the gods their eternal youth and vigor. She maintains a sprawling orchard in Asgard, and all pay her great respect, for without her produce the ravages of age quickly fall upon even the greatest of the Aesir.

Eldest of the Vanir in Asgard, Njörð is a god of the oceans. Of a normally temperate nature. Freyr and Freyja are his children by his first wife who he left behind in Vanaheim. Njörð has been increasingly mournful about the fate of his children in the battle to come.

Njörð himself is fated to survive Ragnarok and return to Vanaheim.

Appointed ruler of Alfheim as a toothing gift, Freyr is a god of fertility and prosperity.

He possesses two dwarfmade treasures, the folding boat Skíðblaðnir which is said to be the finest of all vessels, and the golden boar Gullinbursti, who glows in darkness and can run upon air and water.

Freyr fell facing Surt, during Ragnarok.

The most powerful sorceress within Asgard, Freya is a goddess of fertility and love. She rules over the field Fólkvangr for which she claims half of the worthy battleslain (the others going to Odin's hall Valhalla).

She bears three treasures, the fine necklace Brísingamen, a falcon-feather cloak and the riding boar Hildisvíni.

At Ragnarok she was slain by Surt.

A god of wisdom, Kvasir is also said to be well-traveled. A long time ago, while on his travels, he was accosted by the dwarves Fjalar and Galar who captured him and drained his blood. Mixing it with honey, they created the Mead of Poetry, which caused poetry to be spread to humanity and further afield.

Skaði is a giantess with the purviews of hunting and skiing, who now dwells in Thrymheim, upon the vast mountain range that separates Asgard and Jotunheim. She was married to Njörð for many years, but her love of the mountains proved incompatible with his for the oceans and the two separated.

Skaði has yet to be seen in Asgard since the gods reawakening.
