Kurteisliga - Michael S

A Vanir known for his wisdom, Kurteisliga is known for his role in the negotiations at the end of the Aesir-Vanir war and for once besting Mimir in a riddle contest. He is however widely distrusted amongst the Aesir for spying during the war, as well as for his cowardliness and lack of prowess in battle and for his refusal to drink. As a result he spent little time in Asgard, instead serving as an advisor to Freyr in Alfheim and travelling extensively to Svartalfheim and Jotunheim.

Eternity

Shortly afterwards Kurteisliga declared the general state of emergency in Vanaheim to be over, and passed most of his powers and responsibility for the day to day running of Vanaheim back to the Council. To general horror and dismay, he also announced his intention to step down as Princep, and the announcement that this would only be after he had ruled for 2 full terms (30 years) was by and large lost in the disarray and rioting which followed this revelation. It was with difficulty that the populace of Vanaheim came to terms with the concept of losing their most popular leader, and Kurteisliga was forced to hire more bodyguards and spend much time hiding out in tunnels, talking to his therapist and his owl Sophia.

Many Vanir expected their former Princep to retire to a life of luxury at a country estate, and were surprised when on the Monday following his resignation he turned up at the University of Virdar, better known as ‘Kurteisliga’s’, and announced his intention of taking over a research fellowship and teaching linguistics and history to undergraduates. The popularity of his course was first explained by the fame of the teacher, and then by his wit and his exciting anecdotes about his old friends from the UNITED meetings. Several notable personalities have written to him asking that he stop revealing their mistakes, inappropriate romantic liaisons and deepest secrets to his undergraduate friends; Kurteisliga has yet to comment.

Anyone currently looking for Kurteisliga can find him in his office, at the top of the highest tower at the University, with ‘Kurteisliga, Principal of the Virdar University’ on the door. It is kind to knock loudly before entering to give the Principal time to get out some papers and pretend he is not teaching his owl to perform daring acrobatic feats.

Kurteisliga’s Speech on being elected Principal of the University

“I am utterly delighted to be standing here today, among so many of my friends, to accept the highest regard Vanaheim can show – yes, I consider this position to be more important than that of Princip, for it is as Principal of the University of Virdar-“

“KURTEISLIGA’S!”

“Yes, thank you Torine, very kind of you, commonly known by my name though in truth I deserve very little of the credit, having been very busy collecting up dead bodies during the time when the University was set up, shame about what came of that, turns out Prince Andreas was utterly untrustworthy, who knew – yes, it is as Principal of this University that I hope to inspire our younger generation to follow in the steps of their illustrious forefathers. Who knows, among this audience might be the next Arnlaug, though I hope not – broke Jaeger’s heart she did, or the next Kopr, pottering around in Gridgard watering apples last I heard, cavorting with Hel’s old generals – he’s not a great example either for you kids. Where was I? Oh yes. This is Sophia. Sophia and I look forward to starting our new job and to providing leadership and example to those of you hear today and to all the undergraduates yet to come, and to rebuilding the Brynjolf Memorial Site, or at any rate finally getting round to having the rubble cleared. Haven’t seen damage as bad since that dreadful Sannast burst in to get poor old Doctor Abominable – dead now, alas. Happens as you get older. Well, mustn’t keep harping on about the past. Brilliant future, shining new examples, that sort of thing. Erykatja fairly reliable just don’t trust her with too much at once and really ought to do something about Jaeger and Veurr. Sorry. Wrong notes. Those are for the new Princip. Good example for you all though. Who here can explain the dislike between Jaeger King of Asgard and Veurr of UNITED? Anyone? How about you in the second row? Well, why haven’t you thought about it? You’re here to think about current political issues. No? Oh, you’re here to be one of my bodyguards. Well, you look like an undergraduate. I swear you lot are getting younger…”
