Mikel Vaughan is the son of Gervase Vaughan, the CEO of the industrial manufacturing giant corporation Lucky River, which are a major sponsor of UNITED. A South African by birth, he was appointed to a high commercial position in the LR's East Asian division, probably nepotistically, he has suddenly appeared at UNITED with a team of crack scientists and engineers to assist in research. Mikel's branch of Lucky River were also known to be responsible for manufacturing key components in the Weather Control Warhead. Known for his vulgarity and flashiness, Mikel throws around his enormous wealth with abandon, and is famous for owning a solid gold flying Lamborghini.
For just three months President Mikel Vaughan ruled as undisputed ruler of Midgard, during that time he finalised alliances with the other realms and began to consolidate the emergency powers he had been granted. Both Interpol and UNITED found their hands increasingly tied by bureaucracy and government oversight as the President quietly moved to protect himself. Then word leaked that he was responsible for the military assaults and that a UNITED taskforce was preparing to apprehend him.
President Vaughan responded quickly, calling upon his allies for aid in squashing these malicious rumours and ordering the arrest of those perpetrating the coup; an initial assault on the Ilho de Corvo facility by Vaughan's forces was narrowly fought off, and before the President could mobilise a larger strikeforce to finish off the defenders
After a hushed trial Vaughan was committed to a maximum security facility, however his supporter's frequent attempts to liberate him over the next 10 years, both by legal and paramilitary means eventually prompted the World Government to order his execution. What happened to his spirit after that remains a closely kept mystery, though conspiracy theorists are always quick to point to the success of the mining operation in Gridgard that start up the following year…

Let all remember the great people of our time, the great tasks they accomplished and the eternal peace they forged.
Inscription on the base of 'Human Achievement' a 200ft tall statue in Vaughan's image erected in Johannesburg. It was never completed.

“Of course I deny the allegations. I have only ever sought what is best for the people of Earth and their allies; my alleged crimes are the fabrications of those attempting to overthrow their rightful government and deny the will of the people!”

“President Vaughan was Earth's greatest hero, and that's a fact! He was cast down by jealous and petty men. They don't make politicians like that these days; they're all pencil pushers and conmen. President Vaughan was funny and handsome, always on the news channels letting us know not to be afraid. A real man of the people.”
